Hi! I’m Olivia, a 30-something corporate professional with over a decade of experience at Fortune 100 companies. Navigating the world of corporate America  as a woman has its own peculiarities and nuances. I sometimes feel like I'm floating, isolated, and not sure the next best course of action.

 

When I Google or read books to help me feel more confident and tethered in the corporate world, I often find a business self-help and advice space that's largely written from the perspective of a man.

 

Or I find articles and books written from the perspective of either executives or entry-level folks, neither of which directly apply to my spot in the middle.

 

So, I'm here to share my experience and the lessons I learn along the way from the point of view of a woman in the middle rungs of the corporate ladder.

 

My Experience

I started from corporate journey straight out of college at an entry-level call center position at a Fortune 100 company. I was promoted several times in the call center before being promoted to the corporate sector of the company.

 

Once I had my foot in the corporate door, I worked my way up to a director role. So far, I’ve experienced the corporate ladder from the very bottom to the middle rungs. Despite its challenges, especially as a women, I truly love my corporate job and I intend to spend the rest of my career in corporate America.

I know firsthand that being a woman in business requires a careful balance. Be assertive, but not bossy. Be warm, but not softie. Be authentic, but don't have too much personality. Do as the men do, but when you do it as a woman it doesn't have the same outcome.
